Imago lacus

The picture above was taken by a dear friend, the American poet Debra Kang Dean (please do not use it without permission). I met Debra three years before, when I went to Walden to work with his late husband Brad, a great Thoreau scholar. Once we spent hours tracking this quotation: "Some men go fishing all their lives without ever realizing it's not fish they are after." We concluded that Thoreau never wrote it, but si non è vero...

Cohen-en berria eta kantuzar bat erdieuskaratua

Maisua itzuli da, jaunandreok. Leonard zaharrak kantu berriak kaleratuko ditu aurki. Horien tartean, poema hau, New Yorker aldizkarian argitaratua. Honela hasten da:

I love to speak with Leonard
He’s a sportsman and a shepherd
He’s a lazy bastard
Living in a suit

Cómo me gusta hablar con Leonardo
pastor y deportista
ese vago bastardo
que en su traje habita.

Ba hori, magister dixit. Nire aldetik jarri naiz bere kantu “luze bezain profetiko” euskaratzen (hogei urte eman ditut hori egiten!). Ez da batere erraza, bertsio silabikoa egin nahi baitut, alegia: dagokion musikaren gainean euskaraz kantatzeko modukoa. Hauxe da hasiera:

DATORRENA
(Leonard Cohen)

Emaidak nire gaua
hautsia da ispilua
bakarrik nago
inor ez torturatzeko
Eman kontrol osoa
jende guzti gainean
ta etzan hemen baby
to agindua!

Eman sexu anala
tori azken zuhaitza
sartu kulturako zulotikan
Eman Berlingo hesia
Stalin eta Eliza
datorrena ikusi dut:
hilketa da

Dena joango da
edozein helbidera
ez du izango
inolako neurririk
Kemena -- munduaren kemena
muga pasa eta
irauli du
arimako ordena [...]

THE FUTURE

Give me back my broken night
my mirrored room, my secret life
it's lonely here,
there's no one left to torture
Give me absolute control
over every other living soul
And lie beside me, baby,
that's an order!

Give me crack and anal sex
Take the only tree that's left
stuff it up the hole
in your culture
Give me back the Berlin wall
give me Stalin and St Paul
I've seen the future, brother:
it is murder.

Things are going to slide, slide in all directions
Won't be nothing
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
has crossed the threshold
and it has overturned
the order of the soul [...]

The Future (Columbia, 1992)
